The Spanish Embassy in Amman announced the start of a resettlement scheme of 662 Syrian refugees currently residing in Jordan.

The Embassy said in a press statement on Wednesday that a total of 180 Syrian refugees will travel to Spain on Thursday, while the rest of the group will be resettled over the next few months.

This move comes after the Spanish government agreed in 2017 to resettle 1000 refugees from the Middle East.

Spain wishes to reaffirm its solidarity and commitment to the resettlement of refugees, especially those from countries affected by the humanitarian crisis caused by the conflict in Syria.
