MP Tareq Khoury said that a Jordanian decision will soon be issued on the resumption of air traffic to Syria after a standstill during the past years due to the security situation.

"The imminent decision will restore flights from Amman to Damascus, as well as the use of Jordanian aircraft for Syrian airspace on its flights," Khoury told Reuters on the sidelines of a visit to Damascus.

He explained that this decision comes after a Jordanian delegation visited Damascus to ensure the safety of the airspace, stressing that “now there is no fear to pass over the Syrian airspace and opening of the airspace is in the interest of Jordan and the Jordanian airlines."

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said in a press statement recently, that the Kingdom intends to resume flights to Syria after receiving assurances from the authorities on aviation safety.

Royal Jordanian Airlines suspended daily flights to Damascus and Aleppo in 2012 due to the security situation in Syria.
