42nd anniversary of Queen Alia's martyrdom tomorrow

On Saturday Jordanians remember the HM the late Queen Alia Al-Hussein, on the 42nd anniversary of her martyrdom in February 9, 1977, who died on humanitarian duty in the service of the Jordanian people.

Queen Alia was born on December 25, 1948 in Cairo, where her late father Baha ud-din Toukan served as the Kingdom's ambassador. She studied political science at Loyola University in Rome, Italy.

Since marrying the late HM King Hussien bin Tala, Queen Alia has contributed to supporting the lives of Jordanian citizens,  helping improve living conditions in various and remote locations of the Kingdom. HM  was a model for Jordanian women, helped empower women and enhance their role in various fields, always stressing that women and men must work together in achieving Jordan's developmental goals. 

In commemoration of the late Queen Alia wishes, HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, honored the late Queen with establishing the well known “Tkiyet Um Ali” in 2003, a non-profit organization which helps the poor and the needy by providing them food.

The Jordanians today recall the legacy of the late Queen Alia Al Hussein, and see in HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein and HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein a symbol of generosity and devotion to our beloved Jordan.
