Ambassador of Ukraine to Jordan Dr. Serhiy Pasko, said that relations with Jordan are developing in various fields, pointing to the presence of 5,000 Jordanians in Ukraine and some 2,000 Ukrainians married to Jordanians.

In a press conference held at the Ukrainian Embassy on Tuesday, on the occasion of Ukrainian Unity Day in its centenary, the ambassador said that Jordan and Ukraine agree on various regional and international issues and that his country is continuing to build positive relations with various countries of the world built on mutual respect.

Pasko praised the coordination and political cooperation with Jordan and the convergence of views on various issues in the region, stressing the importance of Jordan's pivotal role aimed at achieving security and stability in the region.

The ambassador urged the Ukrainian community in Jordan to take part in the upcoming presidential elections which will be held at the Embassy at the end of next March.

Pasko said that the trade exchange between the two countries is witnessing a remarkable increase after being affected during the past period by events in the region, especially in Syria, which limited the trade flow between the two countries.

The volume of trade exchange between the two countries during the period from January to November last year amounted to about 160 million dollars, an increase of 14 million dollars over the same period in 2017.

Ukraine's exports to Jordan amounted to about 147 million dollars, an increase of 5.5%, while Jordanian exports to Ukraine did not exceed 13 million dollars, despite an increase of 95% over the same period in 2017.

The number of Jordanian students who obtained student visas in various Ukrainian universities reached 538 in 2018, a rise from 2017’s 474 applicants, and 2016’s of 402.

There are 5,000 Jordanians living in Ukraine, half of whom are students, and 5,000 Ukrainians in Jordan, in which 1985 Ukrainian women are married to Jordanians, showing that relations between the two peoples are strong and distinct.

Ambassador Pasko stressed the importance of opening a Jordanian embassy in Kiev due to the distinguished relations between the two countries, as well as the existence of a Jordanian community in Ukraine.
