The spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate (PSD) has warned drivers against falling victim to the scam involving "professional pedestrians," who intentionally jump in front of cars and pretend to have been run over or hit and hurt by innocent drivers in order to claim money from them.

The scam has become somewhat of a profession for some people in Jordan, the spokesperson confirmed.

Drivers have been urged to immediately contact the authorities should they be involved in a similar accident, noting that only the law can protect them from scam artists.

He added that drivers must not hesitate to report the pedestrian/s involved in the accident if they suspect that they’re a scammer/s.

Under the amended 2017 Penal Code, any pedestrian who causes an intentional road accident will face a two-year prison sentence and will be fined JD 50.
