Jordanian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology explained that the electronic issuance or renewal services of passports which was launched last month is quite different from the electronic passport, which the government is considering to implement when financial allocations are available for the project.

The Ministry said in a press release that the electronic passport service for renewing Jordanian passports online is available on the Civil Status Department's website or through the eGovernment portal website with no need to personally go to the department.

As for the electronic passport, which is a passport with an electronic chip that stores the passport’s owner information, is a project that needs financial funding and is still in its initial stages.

It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Communications and the Civil Status Department have launched the online passport service two years ahead of schedule.
