Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov stressed the need to reach a political solution and end the Syrian crisis and restore Syria to its role in the joint Arab action system, December 28, 2018.
In a press conference with his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi, Sergey Lavrov stressed the importance of Arab countries playing a positive role in resolving the Syrian crisis, pointing out that the main and ultimate goal of efforts is to eliminate terrorism and create conditions for safe living for all people.
Lavrov said that he discussed with his Jordanian counterpart the situation in Syria and the need to respect its sovereignty, as well as the situation around the Rukban refugee camp and Syrian refugees in Jordan.
Lavrov said, "We discussed with the Jordanian Foreign Minister the situation and settlement in Syria and the need to respect the sovereignty, and solve the problem of camp Rukban because those in it can not access humanitarian assistance."
"The solution of the refugee problem needs great efforts by the international community, and the presence of 670,000 Syrian refugees worries Jordan," he said.
In turn, the Jordanian Foreign Minister stressed the need to end the "catastrophe and crisis" in Syria, pointing out that achieving this goal requires cooperation and coordination with Russia.
"We are engaged in continuous efforts with our Russian friends or other friends in the international community to reach a political solution to the crisis that preserves the unity, sovereignty and independence of Syria, and restores Syria's security, stability and well-being, and its role in enhancing the stability of the region and its important role in the joint Arab action system," Safadi said.
Safadi added, ”The position of the Kingdom of Jordan is fixed, and that there should be a positive Arab role in finding a solution to the disaster, which caused death, destruction which must stop immediately."
