The Public Prosecutor in Amman has detained nine students who were involved in a fight at the University of Petra on Tuesday, December 4, a security source has said.
The students will remain in the authorities’ custody for one week on charges of harming fellow students and possessing two unlicensed weapons.
One student was injured in the incident, according to the official Spokesperson of the Public Security Directorate (PSD), who added that other persons also involved in the fight are currently being tracked down by police officers.
In a statement released on Tuesday evening, the university described the fight as “barbaric,” while the university's Dean declared Wednesday, December 5, as an official day off for all students.
