Yemen: 'Kalashnikov' replaces whistle in football match

Yemeni social media users shared a video showing a group of people playing football in a rural area, where the referee shoots a Kalashnikov instead of using a whistle.

The match was held in a village in Shabwa governorate, in south-east Yemen, where the referee uses a Kalashnikov when a player commits a foul.

The use of a machine gun instead of the usual whistle in a football match shocked a lot of people, as they considered it a reflection of the indiscriminate use of weapons in Yemen, while some people thought it was funny.
