"Generations For Peace" Founder and Chairman HRH Prince Faisal Al Hussein, accompanied by Mr. Mohannad Al Nabulsi of Samsung Electronics Levant, presented the eighth annual Samsung Generations For Peace Awards during a gala dinner held at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Centre at the Dead Sea.

The awards recognise the extraordinary achievements of Generations For Peace volunteers leading grassroots peacebuilding programmes in their own communities around the world.

In an address during the ceremony, HRH Prince Faisal said: “The world is beginning to recognise what we at Generations For Peace first realised when I founded it as a peace-through-sport organisation 11 years ago: youth are not only a pivotal component of building peace, but are essential in passing it on – in making it lasting, sustainable, and meaningful in their communities.”

He then addressed the volunteers directly: “Your work – your dedication to your homes and communities, to
your fellow volunteers, and to Generations For Peace – is what makes this possible. In tandem with pivotal peacebuilding vehicles like Sport For Peace, it inspires and empowers youth around you and around the world to take the lead in building peace, and your efforts each day translate the words of UNSCR 2250 into actions providing concrete, measurable, sustainable impact in communities.”

HRH Prince Faisal also expressed his gratitude to Samsung for their partnership with Generations For Peace, saying: “I would like to thank Samsung, who have been supporting our events and programmes in the Levant Region since 2008. Mr. Al Nabulsi, thank you to you and to your President, Mr. Lee, and all the team at Samsung.”

Reflecting a shared focus at the heart of Generations For Peace’s partnership with Samsung, the
awards recognise programme success in Innovation, Quality, Impact, and Sustainability.

- The Innovation Award was presented to volunteers from Nigeria for “Youth Advocacy for InterReligious
and Inter-Ethnic Integration,” an Advocacy For Peace Programme.

- The Quality Award was presented to volunteers from Jordan for “Social Cohesion in Host
Communities,” a Sport and Arts For Peace Programme.

- The Impact Award was presented to volunteers from Sri Lanka for “Religions to Reconcile,” a
Sport and Arts For Peace Programme.

- The Sustainability Award was presented to volunteers from Lebanon for “Engaging Youth for
Human Rights and Social Cohesion,” a Sport and Arts For Peace Programme.

Three of the four winners were recognised for their implementation of sport-based activities, emphasising the power of Generations For Peace’s flagship peacebuilding vehicle to promote a sense of understanding and unity that transcends divides found in day-to-day life in high-conflict communities.

The awards ceremony marks the conclusion of the 2018 Generations For Peace Samsung Advanced Training, which gives volunteers the unique opportunity to engage in both vertical and horizontal learning, taking part in sessions and workshops led by facilitators while exchanging and gaining knowledge among fellow youth-led, community-oriented, grassroots change-makers.

This year’s training brought together 35 volunteers from nine countries – Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Uganda, and Yemen.
