The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said on Monday, November 5, that Syrian authorities have arrested a Jordanian citizen on Sunday.

The citizen is currently being detained in Damascus, but the ministry did not disclose what they were arrested for.

The ministry’s operations centre and the Jordanian Embassy in Damascus are closely following up on the citizen’s case.

This is the first Jordanian citizen to get arrested since the Jaber-Nasib Border Crossing reopened on October 15, 2018.

The border had been closed for security reasons for the past several years. Since the reopening, more than 20,917 Jordanians crossed over the border to visit Syria.
