Jordanian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Mary Kawar, and German Federal Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development, Gerd Muller, signed an aid package worth 462.12 million euros in concessional loans and grants, on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, which will be used for technical assistance and Syrian refugees.

Attending the signing ceremony was German State Secretary for Economic Cooperation, Martin Jager, Jordan’s Ambassador to Germany, Bashir Zu’bi, Secretary General of Ministry of Water, Ali Soboh, Secretary General of Ministry of Education, Sami Salaytah, and Secretary General of Ministry of Labour, Hani Kliefat.

The aid package will help the Kingdom with its economic burdens, and in continuing the comprehensive reform process.

Vital sectors will be allocated 291.8 million euros, of which 164 million euros for education, vocational and technical training, and water and sanitation sectors.

73.32 million euros will be handled by the UN and other NGOs for various Syrian refugees projects, and for other host communities in Jordan.

And as announced by Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, during her visit to Jordan last June, 86 million euros will be allocated to support economic reforms and the public budget, as a soft loan.

MP Kawar expressed appreciation for the German support in implementing various vital national projects.

For his part, Jager said that Germany will continue to be a “reliable and strong” supporter of Jordan and help dealing with regional challenges.
