Jordanian Minister of Health, Ghazi Zaben, announced that Saturdays will be considered as days-off for public hospitals affiliated with the Ministry of Health starting next year (2019). While several departments and medical centers are to continue providing services according to the nature of their work, the statement included.

This came during two separate meetings held between the Health Minister and directors of provincial departments of various hospitals and health centers in the Kingdom, on Saturday, October 20, 2018.

Zaben stated that boosting the level of services in the health sector is a major goal of the Ministry. Though an efficient management of all resources is difficult, it is not an impossible task, he added, especially when combined with determination and perseverance.

Providing the Ministry’s medical staff with a stable work environment is on the top of our priorities, Zaben affirmed. The Ministry has high-level and skilled staff who excel in both scientific and practical capabilities and ensuring their safety and well-being must be secured.

Zaben also addressed the mechanism concerning transferring patients between hospitals of the Ministry and hospitals of other sectors. Adding that such transfers must be based on clear standards and should be regulated according to a clear process.

With the winter season approaching, Zaben added, medical cadres should be on high alert and at all times in order to be able to efficiently deal with any and all emergency cases.

The minister stressed that he will be conducting field visits to all sites that provide health services, adding that the vast majority of these visits will not be pre-announced in order to be able to honestly review the level of services provided to the citizens.
