A massive fire broke out in the Egyptian Al-Rashda village, in the New Valley Governorate western of Egypt on Saturday, October 6, 2018.

According to the Governor of the New Valley, Major-General Muhammad al-Zamlout, four Armed Forces helicopters and 30 fire trucks from the Asyut and Sohag Governorates worked on extinguishing the fire; which is considered to be the largest in the history of the province.

The fire had started in a small area but the wind picked up speed and the fire was spread over to agricultural areas, then moved towards residential areas. 

Egyptian Health Ministry spokesman, Khalid Mujahid stated 32 people were injured, amongst them the Director of Civil Protection. Later, the Egyptian Cabinet announced in a statement that there were no casualties.
