MP Ibrahim Bani Hani expressed concern about an increase of divorce rates in Jordan if the new draft of the Income Tax Bill (ITB) will be adopted.

“I have heard many citizens say they will divorce their wives if the bill gets approved," Bani Hani said during the council's discussion of the bill.

Bani Hani pointed out that some citizens will find in divorce a solution to not submit to the new ITB.

Individuals whose annual income does not exceed 8 thousand JDs will be exempted from the new ITB. Moreover, families whose total annual income is less than 16 thousand JDs will also be exempted.
