According to Vietnam's state media, President Tran Dai Quang has died at the age of 61 on Friday, September 21, 2018.

Quang died in a military hospital on Friday morning from a "serious illness despite efforts by domestic and international doctors and professors", Vietnam Television reported. Quant hasn’t been seen for weeks prior to the announcement of his death.

Vietnam's tenth President was born in 1956 in a farming community and had received a doctorate degree in law. He has held various positions in Vietnam's Ministry of Interior since the 1970s.

A former minister of Public Security, Quang was elected president in April 2016 and was an advocate of bilateral ties with the U.S., hosting President Donald Trump last year during his first visit to the communist country.
