His Majesty King Abdullah II met with the President and members of the Jordan Press Association (JPA), on Wednesday September 19, 2018, to discuss a number of issues related to media information and local affairs, in addition to current regional and international developments.

His Majesty stressed that Jordan continues its reform process and underlined the importance of evaluating and developing electoral and party laws that ensure wider participation in decision-making and enable Jordanian youth to contribute to development. The King also stressed on the significant role of the media in confronting extremism and protecting young people from thoughts that contradict the principles of Islam.

His Majesty also stressed on the importance of professional media in presenting the facts to citizens, encouraging constructive debate and highlighting achievements.

During the meeting held at Al Husseiniya Palace, His Majesty said that the Kingdom faces economic challenges but is capable of overcoming them.

The President of the JPA Rakan Al Saida emphasised the keenness of the Association to promote the profession in delivering information that serves the interests of Jordan, pointing out the importance of communication between state institutions and journalists to provide the correct information which will enable them to confront rumors.

He also stressed the importance of empowering the media and developing the skills of journalists to deal with social networking platforms, to affect more influence on public opinion.

Members of the JPA discussed various media issues and the importance of facilitating the access to information, as well as ways to deal with fabricated news and keeping up with developments in the world of modern media.

The King concluded that he will be participating in the meeting at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he will be meeting a number of world leaders and delegates to discuss Jordanian issues of interest, as well as the Palestinian issue and the support of The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
