A fifteen year-old boy died in a swimming pool in Zarqa, according to the Director of the Health Directorate of Zarqa, Daifallah Haqban, on Thursday, September 13, 2018.

The swimming pool, in which the boy drowned, was illegally built, did not comply with the Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) requirements, and did not have a lifeguard on site.

Haqban pointed out that the Directorate has already issued a formal letter last month ordering the closure of the swimming pool for lack of safety requirements and for violations. He added that the Directorate sent another official letter in the last few days to find out why the swimming pool was still open despite the previous order to close down for violations.

The Governor of Zarqa instructed Security Services to implement the closure decision, pointing out that this decision was already issued last month.
