Social Development Ministry: Preventive detention of women to cease by 2019

Jordanian Minister of Social Development, Hala Lattouf, confirmed that sentences regarding “preventive detention” of women, who face risks, will cease by the end of 2018.

At the beginning of the year 2019, all relative cases of preventive detention will automatically be transferred to "safe” houses for rehabilitation and protection instead. These women will be hosted instead of being forcefully held at these center, Lattouf added.

Lattouf’s statement was announced during a speech organized by Mizan Law Group for Human Rights and in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Development and the French Embassy in Jordan on Wednesday, September 13, 2018.

The event and was attended by the French Ambassador to Jordan, Ambassador of the European Union in Jordan and the Government Coordinator for Human Rights, Basil Tarawneh.
