The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) has launched a petition addressed to pop American singer, Lana Del Rey, urging her to cancel her upcoming concert which was scheduled to take place later this week on September 7, 2018.

With more than 1460 signatures, the petition plea to Del Rey –and other artists scheduled to perform at the Meteor Festival– contained a direct request their September concerts cancellation; “Please stand with us on the right side of history to create a better world for all,” the plea contained.

Del Rey, who used her Twitter account to announce her decision, commented on Friday, August 31, 2018:

“It is important to me to perform in both Palestine and Israel and treat all my fans equally. Unfortunately it has not been possible to line up both visits with such short notice and therefore I'm postponing my appearance at the Meteor Festival until a time when I can schedule visit for both my Israeli and Palestinian fans, as well as hopefully other countries in the region.”

PACBI, as well as other Pro-Palesinian organizations, praised Del Rey’s decision. BDS Movement tweeted:

“Thank you Lana Del Rey for your principled decision to withdraw from Israel’s Meteor Festival. You heeded the call by countless fans & groups who care deeply about justice, including @PACBI & @jvplive”. Adding; “We urge all remaining artists to also respect the Palestinian picket line.”
