Your little ones are about to go back to school after a lovely, long summer holiday, and surely neither you nor them are in the slightest excited about having to set your alarms to 6am once again.

Schools will open their doors once again on Sunday (some kids have already gone back to the classroom last week), so, parents, before the school bus arrives at your doorsteps tomorrow morning, we thought we would give you tips on how to get your kids excited about starting a new academic year.

- Remind them of the importance of education for a better and brighter future - because knowledge is power.

- Talk to them about the beauty of school friendships and the importance of making new friends and being kind to them, as well as assuring them that many of those friendships will go on to be lifelong ones.

- Encourage them to talk to you about any schoolmates whom they might be bothered or bullied by, so that they are not feeling nervous or afraid of going back to school.

- Discuss the important life skills school teaches them, such as punctuality, social skills, critical thinking, self-discipline, respect and teamwork.
