Five Saudi women are now licensed female pilots to fly civil aviation aircrafts, the Saudi Newspaper, Okaz, reported on Tuesday, August 28, 2018.

The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) stated that this comes within the framework of empowering Saudi women to work in the aviation sector – which complies with the strategies and vision of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

GACA added that Saudi Arabia has been providing gender-segregated educational and training services in the aviation sector where women were able to study, train and graduate as certified pilots. A number of women have recently been hired by GACA as well as other service providers.

In June 2018, first female pilot in the history of Saudi Arabia, Captain Hanadi Hindi, published a photo of her license on her twitter account, saying: "I come baring good news, GACA has renewed my aviation license." Hindi became an official pilot following her training in Jordan, back in 2006.
