Chaired by PM Omar Razzaz, the Cabinet on Sunday made the decision to move the Anti-Terrorism Unit from the Ministry of Culture to the Prime Ministry, in order to expand its mandate in combating extremist notions, the Prime Ministry reported.

The Cabinet hopes to create an effective mechanism which involves implementing specific and targeted programmes and projects to counter extremist ideas, while cooperating with various institutions to fulfill that role and contribute towards raising awareness and educating the nation on unwanted behaviors and ideas that may lead to extremism.

The Cabinet has also agreed to set up a Ministerial Committee to establish a clear mechanism and action plan on what to do during the next phase. The Committee will be composed of the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Awqaf, Education, Youth and Culture.
