Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with His Majesty King Abdullah II and the Jordanian Crown Prince at Al Husseiniya Palace on Wednesday, to discuss the need for finding a political solution that would best serve the rights of the Palestinian people, the Royal Hashemite Court reported.

During the meeting, the leaders stressed the importance of relaunching the peace process through the joint efforts of the Jordanian-Palestinian Higher Committee.

His Majesty said that his country will always stand by the Palestinian people, while noting the need for working with all parties to resume the Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations based on the two-state solution, which aims at establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

King Abdullah also briefed Abbas on the recent discussions held with US President Donald Trump and US officials on the Palestinian cause. He stressed the importance of working with the US administration and the international community to find a solution for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which has an impact on the stability of the entire MENA region.

The Jordanian monarch reiterated that Jordan has a historical role in safeguarding the holy sites in Jerusalem under the Hashemite Custodianship.

The two leaders also discussed the role of UNRWA and the urgent need for the international community to shoulder their responsibility to enable it to proceed with providing its educational, healthcare and relief services for the refugees.
President Abbas expressed his appreciation for King Abdullah’s support for the Palestinian cause and his continuous efforts in protecting their rights in all international forums.
