A mortar that was launched from the Gaza Strip towards Israel on Monday fell on the Strip’s side of the border, failing to reach its target.

The weapon was launched just hours after Israel struck Hamas targets in Gaza, in which the Israeli Air Force fired at two Hamas positions in northern Gaza. Israel’s attack was in response to the dozens of incendiary kites and balloons launched by Palestinians towards Israel that day.

Israel claims that it has lost at least 1,000 hectares (about 2,500 acres) of farmland, nature reserves and forests due to the fires caused by flaming kites and balloons.

The strikes follow a failed ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, after the latter launched around 200 projectiles from the Gaza Strip towards the south of Israel since late Friday, with at least 30 of them getting intercepted by the Iron Dome.
