While Roya News was attending a parliamentary session at the House of Representatives on Sunday, our reporter caught a glimpse of MP Hammad Maaita sharing a “secret” note with the Minister of Interior, Sameer Mbaideen, during the session that was discussing the much-important ministerial statement by PM Omar Razzaz’s new government.

In the note, Maaita, who hails from Karak, informed Mbaideen that during his upcoming speech, fellow MP Abdullah Zureikat is planning on asking the government and House of Representatives to scrap one governorate and join it with another.

“Dear Abu Ibrahim… Abdullah Zureikat will ask the government and House of Representatives during his upcoming speech to make Tafilah a part of Karak once again. How do you feel about that?” the note read.

Tafilah was once a part of Karak (Madaba was too) until the 1970s.

Back then, Jordan only had five governorates: Amman, Irbid, Karak, Maan, Balqa and Ma’an. Today, there are 12.
