Mona Bitar represented Jordan in the Kettlebell World Championship, outmatching international athletes of the sport. The 35-year-old Jordanian won both a silver and a bronze at the international four-day tournament which took place in Milan, Italy starting June 21-24, 2018.

Bitar was the only Arab woman representing an Arab nation in an event participated by over 800 athletes from 23 countries.

Bitar succeeded in securing the silver medal in the ‘Clean and Jerk’ after lifting the 16kg kettlebell 110 times and the bronze medal in the ‘Snatch’ with 152 lifts.

Kettlebell is a weightlifting sport, which was created in Russia during the 1980’s, consisting of Clean and Jerk, Snatch and Jerk styles. Bitar is an avid advocate of the sport and aims to spread knowledge about it.

“I want to create awareness about this sport in my country. It’s very simple and it has huge health benefits for anyone who practices it. I want all Jordanians to know about Kettlebell,” She said.
