Former Royal Court Chief, Fayez Tarawneh, was appointed to Jordan’s Senate, through a royal decree issued on Wednesday.

Tarawneh’s appointment comes a day after the King accepted his resignation from the position of Chief of the Royal Court, which he occupied for the first time in 1999.

The King addressed Tarawneh after receiving his resignation letter in “appreciation and gratitude to you for [his] outstanding efforts and for the great services [he] provided for the country.”

The King also acknowledged in the letter that Tarawneh must take his fair share of rest after the long years of exceptional service or move to a another position that serves the public.

The newly appointed senator has previously served as an ambassador to the US and Prime Minister on two occasions.

Tarawneh replaces Rajai Muasher, immediately after the latter submitted his resignation backdated June 14, 2018. Muasher is now the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State in the Cabinet of Omar Al Razzaz.

On the other hand, the position of Chief of the Royal Court is now occupied by Yousef Issawi, who was appointed through a royal decree issued the previous day.
