His Majesty King Abdullah II met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, where His Majesty underlined the vitality of resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in regards to the international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. Adding that the two-state solution is the only way to achieve peace and stability in the region.

The meeting came after months of strained ties between the two countries over the killing of two Jordanian citizens by an Israeli embassy guard in Amman in 2017 which caused a diplomatic crisis.

King Abdullah emphasized that Jerusalem is the key to achieving peace, because of the great status it holds for all Muslims, Christians and Jews alike. And that Jordan will continue protecting Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem based on the Hashemite Custodianship.

His Majesty stressed the importance of establishing a Palestinian state based on pre-June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The meeting addressed a number of bilateral issues as well, including the Water Conveyance Red Sea/Dead Sea project, which will affect Jordan positively, as it will for the West Bank and Israel. It was also agreed to study the lifting of restrictions on merchandise exports to the West Bank, which would result in promoting investments and trade between Jordanian and Palestinian markets.

Attendees included Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Director of the General Intelligence Department and Advisor to His Majesty the King, Director of His Majesty's Office, and His Majesty's Advisor for Economic Affairs.

This meeting came days before White House special adviser, Jared Kushner, and US peace envoy, Jason Greenblatt, are due to arrive in the region for peace talks.

Kushner and Greenblatt are set to visit Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and Israel to iron out details of the Trump peace plan.

On the other hand Palestinians officials refuse to meet with US officials ever since Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in December, and moved the US Embassy to the city last month.
