The relationship between an employer and their employee is a complex one, and that’s especially true for Jordan. However, there are some bosses whom you really don’t mind spending eight-hour days with, five days a week.

With that being said, what makes you happy is not necessarily what will put a smile on your boss’s face. And sometimes employers’ demands are beyond employees’ means, that they might as well be asking them to locate a leprechaun!

Although the workplace is a much more flexible place to be at today than it was years ago, employees continue to present employers with a list of demands and expectations, and vice versa.

A company’s job is to find the right balance between each side’s demands. But what is each one looking for?

Unconditional loyalty

Employer

Employers are looking for the same unconditional love a parent has for their child, but in the form of loyalty.

Employee

If it’s loyalty they want, employees expect appreciation and nurturing to feed their loyalty; otherwise, they’re flying the nest.

Get the job done

Employer

This is as simple as it sounds: do your job (literally!) without your boss having to follow up a million times just to make sure that you’ve completed the task assigned to you.

Employee

There are some of us who will go above and beyond to get the job done, but when extra work is required, it’s only fair to expect overtime pay, right?

Extra hours

Employer

It’s every employer’s dream to have their employees volunteer extra work hours from their precious free time, for the love of their job and at no extra cost.

Employee

There comes a time in every dedicated employee’s life when they decide that they need an incentive to keep them working all those extra hours, or at least be rewarded for taking the initiative. #LivingNotMinimumWage

Real passion for work

Employer

You can’t always have the job of your dreams, but employers still expect you to show some passion for what you do. That will work in your favour, anyway!

Employee

Passion will never die out if workers are given one day to work from home and the space to think and be creative (depending on what field they’re in).
