Suhoor (pre-dawn meal) is a key meal during Ramadan.

Eating hours before fasting is essential, in order to stock up on plenty of minerals that will keep your body active and healthy (and your tummy full) until Iftar.

Nutritionist Ruba Msharbesh told Roya TV that Suhoor is actually considered to be the “main meal” of Ramadan, as it supplies the body with enough energy to help with fasting.

In fact, not eating Suhoor will give you a really bad headache the next day, when your body is deprived from food and water. Ruba said that skipping Suhoor will also cause you to lose concentration, which isn’t something you want to happen during work or while driving.

Ruba advised those fasting to eat brown bread at Suhoor, as it contains plenty of fiber that will gradually increase your blood sugar levels throughout the day.

Eating yogurt, eggs, vegetables, hummus and ful is highly recommended by Ruba, who said that it’s best to avoid eating olives and pickles, or drinking tea and coffee.

Naturally, Ruba recommended drinking plenty of water, natural juices and hibiscus tea.

Come sunset, Ruba said it’s best to break one’s fast by drinking a glass of water, eating a date, followed by vegetable soup and then eating up the main dish in several stages.
