Jordan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi, discussed with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, the escalating conditions in Palestine over the phone Tuesday evening.

The ministers discussed recent developments in the Gaza Strip as well as the issue of the US embassy in Jerusalem, according to Anadolu Agency.

US President Donald Trump’s controversial decision to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem was executed on Monday, sparking outrage across the Arab world and the international community.

Thousands took to protest along the Gaza border on Monday, leaving 62 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces as well as approximately 2700 injured.

In response, Turkey summoned the Israeli ambassador to Turkey, Eitan Naeh on the same day, and requested he leave the country. The country had also recalled its ambassadors in the US and Israel on Monday.

The opening of the embassy came one day before the 70th anniversary of Nakba Day, which marks the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of people during the establishment of Israel in 1948.
