Jordan’s Grand Mufti Mohammad Khalaileh announced on Tuesday that the crescent, or hilal, was not sighted, meaning the holy month of Ramadan will begin on Thursday, joining Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Meanwhile, Ramadan is due to begin on Wednesday in Europe and on Thursday in Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, Singapore, Oman and Brunei.

On the first day, sunrise in Amman will be at 05:39 and sunset at 19:27, meaning Muslims observing the fast will refrain from drinking, eating and smoking for 13 hours, 48 minutes.

The daylight hours will only increase throughout the month as sunrise will shift to 05:30 and sunset to 19:44, bringing the time of fast in the final day ot the month to 14 hours, 14 minutes.
