The Managing Director of Emerging Markets at Careem, Ibrahim Manna, addressed the public in a live video on the company Facebook page on Saturday at 1 p.m. local time.

He began by stating that the company had reached around half a million users in Jordan since its inception two years ago. He asserted that the hurdles Careem faced in Jordan are similar to the ones the company has experienced in other countries and added that they will be able to overcome them.

He addressed the recent lawsuit that was filed against Careem by a local taxi company and pointed out that the complaint had singled them out from all the other apps that operate in the kingdom. He also confirmed that the company has appealed the ruling that prevents them from operating in Amman and reminded customers that the application fully functions in Irbid and Zarqa.

Manna noted that the Jordanian government supports ride-hailing phone apps as a method of improving transportation and providing employment opportunities for local youth. He disclosed that becoming a Careem driver, or Captain, was a relatively lucrative job opportunity which was backed up by the number of Captains who had left their previous jobs to join the company.

The director finished on a positive note and claimed that the government will soon publish the regulations pertaining to transportation applications in the Official Gazette.
