We hate to be the ones to break this to you, but the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) is not exempting drivers in Amman from paying their traffic fines.

That was the rumor circulating on social media over the weekend, however, a Facebook post on GAM’s official page confirmed that “there is no truth to the news that Jordanian citizens are exempt from paying their traffic fines.”

What GAM is doing though is improving its digital user experience, by updating their website and mobile apps to allow for an easier payment process.

Driving in Amman can be tricky due to the large majority of drivers speeding, overtaking other vehicles in a dangerous way, alternating between two lanes at high speeds, reversing in the wrong direction and creating an obstacle on the road by parking in the wrong spot.

Those who have driven in the Jordanian capital (and survived!) often joke that “if you can drive in Amman, you can drive anywhere else in the world.”
