The Jordanian Minister of State for Media Affairs, Mohammad Momani reasserted Jordan’s rejection of the US decision to move their embassy to Jerusalem and recognize the holy city as the Israeli capital.

During a weekly interview on the official JRTV Radio, the minister condemned the decision to relocate the US embassy to Jerusalem as invalid and warned that in the absence of a fair solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict despair and frustration will fuel extremism in the region.

Momani asserted that the move will harm the peace process and only serve extremist powers. He pointed out that the international community also views the relocation as invalid and sides with Palestine on the issue.

The minister’s comments came in response to a tweet posted by US President Donald Trump on Thursday congratulating the Israeli PM on Israel’s so-called Independence Day and reiterating his promise to move the US embassy to Jerusalem on May 15th, 2018.

While Israel celebrates their independence twice, once according to the Hebrew calendar- on Thursday, April 19, and the Gregorian calendar- on May 14, Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip have been under lockdown as Israeli authorities have closed the borders for a three day period due to the festivities.
