The Israeli Embassy in Amman announced on Monday that its Ambassador, Amir Weissbrod, had arrived in Jordan.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry had appointed Weissbrod in February as a replacement for former Ambassador Einat Schlein.

Schlein was relieved from her duties after two Jordanians were killed by an Israeli guard at the embassy in July 2017.

The guard, along with the entire embassy staff, were sent back to Israel immediately after the incident.

At the time, tensions ran high between the two countries, until they came to an agreement which stipulated that Israel would only be allowed to reopen its embassy in Amman if the Israeli guard stands trial.

However, their wish was not granted, but Israel did apologise for the incident and compensated the families of the deceased.

Weissbrod, who is fluent in Arabic, has previously held positions in Jordan and Morocco and was the Head of the Middle East Department at a political research center in Israel.
