Thousands of Palestinians are raising their flag while burning the flag of the occupying power during the third weekend of the “Great Return March” which started on March 30.

This Friday has accordingly been named "Raising the Palestinian flag and burning the flag of the occupation” as the hashtags #RaisingFlag and #BurningFlag were trending in Palestine on Thursday, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Ahmed Abu Ratima, a spokesman for the "Great Return March," said that the demonstrations will persist until culminating on the Nakba anniversary on May 15 in their aim to assert Palestinians’ right of return under UN resolution 194 and stop the Israeli siege of the Gaza Strip.

"During the processions, there will be a massive presence of local and international media that have placed the processions for the peace of the Gaza Strip at the top of their priorities," Abu Ratima added.

Since the demonstrations began, more than 30 people were killed, 1000 were injured, but the demonstrations are still continuing due to the huge support it is getting from Hamas, Palestinian groups, and the Palestinian people.

More than two million Palestinians are living hard circumstances, suffering the highest unemployment rate in the world, and denied access in and out the Gaza Strip. Israel started the siege after Hamas won the parliamentary elections in 2006.
