A Jordanian driver has faked his own car theft in the hope of receiving JD 35,000 as compensation from his insurance company, Al Ghad newspaper reported.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said the driver had called them about his missing car, but after investigating the incident, they came to learn that he had planned the entire robbery with two of his friends.

The CID found the man’s vehicle completely taken apart in an area in East Amman.

After interrogating the driver’s partners in crime, they admitted to agreeing to take the car apart and keep its parts in a storage unit in the Marka district, Amman.

Both men, who were found to have a criminal record, have been referred to the Public Prosecutor, according to Al Ghad.
