Jordan has broken the Guinness World Record for the largest mosaic made out of candles. The artwork covers a space of more than 100 cubic meters and used 11,440 candles to create.

The announcement was made by the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) during the annual event “Earth Hour” on Saturday.

The mosaic, which was created by more than 500 participants, carries Earth Hour’s logo (+60), a global event committed to addressing climate change.

The painting aims to highlight RSCN’s role in preserving nature at local and international levels, as well as saving the national heritage of the kingdom.

The candles used to create the record-breaking piece were hand-made by women from the local community, in order to provide them with extra income. However, the candles will be re-used by the RSCN, according to the organization's Facebook page.

Organized by the RSCN, the Earth Hour event in Amman took place in the Jabal Amman area on Saturday from 8pm to 10pm, where the mosaic was being displayed.

This is not the first Guinness World Record for Jordan; it has previously broken six records, according to a list compiled by the Views of the Middle East blog.

1- Largest number of internet cafes in one street (University street in Irbid) - 2002
2- Largest sand structure made inside a glass bottle - 2012
