The Russian Consulate in Amman opened its doors on Friday (at 8am) for almost 1,200 Russian expats, who are eligible to vote in the 2018 Russian presidential election.

The election, which will see eight candidates compete for presidency, will take place on 18 March, 2018. Around 110 million registered voters will head to the ballot boxes in Russia to choose their next president.

Current President Vladimir Putin is widely expected to win a new term, if opinion polls are anything to go by. Putin has ruled Russia either as president or prime minister for more than 18 years.

The first round of voting will be held on Sunday, and if in the first round no candidate wins an absolute majority of the votes, which is more than half, a second round will take place exactly three weeks later on 8 April, according to Russian law.
