A man in his sixties committed suicide on Thursday in Irbid after he doused himself in fuel and set himself on fire.
According to security sources, the man was transferred to Prince Rashed Ben Al-Hasan Military Hospital, but did not survive due to the severe burns he had obtained from the fire.
Witnesses told local media that the man had a history of mental illness.
The suicide rate has risen in Jordan in the past few months, with burning oneself to death being one of the most common methods of committing suicide.
Earlier last week, a 14-year-old child committed suicide by hanging himself at his family home in Mafraq.
