Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas confirmed on Thursday night that he is in good health, after undergoing medical checks in the United States.

The 82-year-old said in an interview with Palestine TV while in Baltimore: “It was a suitable opportunity to be here to conduct some medical tests, and these tests have been conducted and now we left.”

“Thank God all the results are positive and reassuring,” he said after leaving hospital, without giving further details.

The president also rejected reports that he had been rushed to hospital during his visit.

Abbas, a heavy smoker, underwent the tests after delivering a speech at the United Nations Security Council, where he appeared tired and barely able to breathe.

Following his US visit, Abbas was scheduled to travel to Venezuela, but he was reported to have gone back to Ramallah on Saturday instead, according to the AP News Agency.
