The U.S Embassy has informed its citizens about new Travel Advisories and Alerts, which allow them to access security information about every country in the world.

The issued message, encouraged American citizens to check the safety and security information before travelling to Jordan, and warned them against travelling to the border with Syria and Iraq due to the “armed conflict”.

The warning also advised those who are travelling to Jordan to monitor local media for breaking events and to adjust their plans based on new information.

“Avoid demonstrations and protests. Be aware of your surroundings. Stay alert in locations frequented by Westerners.Obtain comprehensive medical insurance that includes medical evacuation. Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive Alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency,” the message read.

According to the message, travellers should receive prior permission to visit areas within 10km from the Jordan-Syria border, which includes the town of Ramtha.

However, the tourist site of Umm Qais, and the city of Irbid, were mentioned as areas that do not need permissions to enter.
