The Central Council of the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s (PLO) recommendation to suspend the recognition of Israel until it has recognized Palestine as an independent state and called off the decisions to annex east Jerusalem was regarded by analysts as a big move, despite doubts that their demands will be implemented anytime soon, reported AFP.

The Council, which convened in Ramallah city in the West Bank for two days, said in a final press release on Monday that it “assigns the consecutive committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) to suspend the recognition of Israel until it recognizes the Palestinian State according to the 1967 borders, and cancels the decision of including East Jerusalem, and stops settling.”

The meeting was held to come up with a response to US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

According to analysts, the decision reflects the Palestinian leadership’s disappointment and failure to face Trump’s decision.

In the end, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will have the final word over this.
According to an AFP correspondent, 74 voted in favor the draft resolution, two voted against it, while 12 abstained.

Palestinian analysts were doubtful that Abbas, known to be very cautious, will go ahead with suspending the recognition of the Jewish state.
