A Gazan fisherman was shot dead by Egyptian naval forces in Rafah on Saturday morning.

Abdullah Zaidan, 33, was fishing off the southern coast of the besieged Gaza Strip when Egyptian soldiers opened fire on him.

Zaidan got shot in the chest and was pronounced dead on behalf of the Gazan Ministry of Health by Dr. Ashraf Alqudra.

It is not yet known why Egyptian forces fired at Zaidan.

Thirteen years ago, there were approximately 10,000 Palestinian fishermen in Gaza, according to Al Jazeera. In 2015, there were less than 3,500.
