Ayman al-Safadi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed Jordan’s rejection of relocating the Guatemalan embassy in Jerusalem on Monday.

On his Twitter account, al-Safadi said such a decision is absurd and against international resolutions.

He added that the move is illegal, and insisted that Jerusalem is Palestine’s capital.

Guatemalan President, Jimmy Morales announced Sunday that he will move the country’s embassy to Jerusalem and that he had given instructions for the move already, according to Middle East Eye (MEE).
The decision came after Morales spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Israeli officials has expressed gratitude to the Guatemalan President.

Guatemala was one of 9 countries that voted against the UN resolution of rejecting U.S President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
