Hasan Yousef, a senior Hamas leader was reportedly arrested at dawn on Wednesday in Ramallah, according to Turkish Yenisafak.

Yousef’s son, Oays Hasan, told Anadolu Agency that dozens of Israeli soldiers had raided the family home and arrested his father.

Fifty-seven-year-old Yousef has been arrested more than once and spent a total of 21 years inside Israeli jails.

Thirty-two others, including Hamas members were arrested alongside Yousef, for suspicions over involvement of “terrorist” activities.

The situation in the West Bank has gained momentum after the announcement of US President Donald Trump to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, a move that was condemned by the international community.

More than 1,778 people have been injured by Israeli fire since the beginning of clashes in the occupied Palestinian territories last week, with people taking to the streets to express anger and rejection of Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
