If you were hoping to catch the famous Burj Khalifa fireworks show this New Year’s Eve in Dubai, we hate to disappoint you, as Emaar Properties announced last week that they will be replacing fireworks with a spectacular light show this December 31.

Yes, the organisers are promising a “never before seen spectacle’ (using nearby buildings in Downtown as a canvas) when the clock strikes midnight in Dubai.

The annual larger-than-life event’s marketing material does not mention fireworks at all, and hints and lights and lasers instead.

The “Light Up Dubai” show will most likely be as extravagant as the fireworks show - this is Dubai, after all!

Special viewing platforms will be set up across Burj Park and Downtown for your viewing pleasure.

If you can’t get too close to the Burj, the show will be transmitted on big screens across Downtown Dubai.

More than 1.5 million people are expected to head down to Downtown Dubai on New Year’s Eve this month.
