Remember Amman’s Express Bus project? Well, its launch date has been extended yet again.

The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) has been in the works since 2009 and the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) had promised that it would be operational by 2019.

However, GAM’s media office announced in a statement on Saturday that BRT infrastructure works will be completed in the first quarter of 2020.

The official BRT website has recently noted that the bus service has been upgraded to the following three categories:

1. Express service: Non-stop between major destinations such as the station, the University of Jordan, Sweileh and Sports City.

2. Fast service: Stops at main stations only.

3. Regular service: Stops at all stations.

Amman’s former Mayor, Aqel Biltaji, had said while still in office that the cost of BRT is at $50 million.
